Wednesday Evening Kids Night

Grades 1 to 8

September to April

We meet at 7:00 on Wednesday evenings for singing, Bilble Lessons, movies and Crafts. It is a great time to meet new friends and learn about God, Jesus and the Bible. On certain occasions we do special things with the seniors of our congregation. Some of the things we do is Meet and Greet one another in September, then near Valentines Day we share activities together on the subject of LOVE.

Purpose

Here are the basic items that anchor together the churches of Christ:

1) We believe in the one God revealed in the Bible. We believe the one God is made up of the three beings known as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

2) We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. We are confident God inspired the men that wrote each book of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. When we need direction in life, are confronted with temptation, or need a source to encourage hope and worship, we turn to the Bible. The Bible is our guide for everyday living. Our goal is to “speak where the Bible speaks and silent where the Bible is silent.” We are committed to continually studying God’s Word, the Bible, to see how we can most closely give God the personal and collective worship He desires.

3) We believe the church is made up of God’s people on earth. Jesus is our head, and we are His body (Galatians 5:23). We do not seek to be a denomination, we merely want to be the body of our Savior.

4) From our understanding of the Bible, there are some important steps to being saved. Every step is rooted in scripture. These steps are actually a process in which a person grasps them both emotionally and intellectually. The Lord says we must believe in the power and person of Jesus Christ (John 3:16). It is also necessary for us to repent, or change our way of living that is against Jesus (Acts 2:37-38). Jesus has also asked us to be willing to confess to other people that we are His (Romans 10:9-10). God, through the New Testament, also requires to be immersed, or baptized, into Christ (Romans 6:3-11). At that point we become part of Christ’s body (Galatians 3:26-27). Just following the above steps certainly does not mean the Christian is finished with religion. Instead, a wonderful life in Jesus begins.

5) We look forward to the final day, when Jesus will claim His own for an eternal home with Him. According to 2 Thessalonians 4, Jesus will return in the clouds and his followers will rise, meet Him in the sky, and ultimately be with Him forever.

6) Most people notice our worship is unique in two aspects: a) our singing is unaccompanied by musical instruments and, b) we take the Lord’s Supper every week. We do not do these things uniquely just because we like them better in this manner. We do so because our study of Scripture has led us to believe this is the way we can best honor our Lord.

The Moose Jaw congregation began in 1942, when Clifford & Margaret Nelson, Art & Elida Dods and Olaf & Evelyn Aasen moved into the city from out lying areas. It was June 14, 1942 that marked their first worship service together.They met in their homes for worship each Lords Day and were often assisted by visiting men from other congregations. In September 1944 the first "protracted Gospel Meeting" was held by Brother H. A. Rogers. For this meeting a Boy Scout Hall was rented. Due to other families moving into the city, this hall proved to be adequate for the needs of the congregation so it was rented on a continuous monthly basis for worship services. During the next year plans were being considered to build their own place of worship, and with financial help from other Christians, a lot was purchased, with construction soon to take place. It was then that Brother Wilfred Orr with his family moved to Moose Jaw. He assisted the congregation by preaching and overseeing the construction of the new building which opened November 28, 1948. The first appointment of Elders took place in August 1955, and later that fall followed the appointment of Deacons. By the year 1960 the congregation had outgrown its present building, after much deliberation it was decided to purchase some available lots in a different location and once again build another meeting house. Construction began April 1, 1964 and was completed for opening that fall. This is our current facility and has served the congregation adequately for the past thirty eight years. At the present time this congregation does not have elders and deacons, but the business affairs are taken care of by willing men of the congregation.Even though there are no elders or deacons at this present time, this congregation has been blest over the years by having the following men serving in that capacity.

The Moose Jaw Church of Christ is a non-denominational family of Christians worshipping and serving our Lord Jesus Christ. We view the name "Church of Christ" as more of a descriptive term than a denominational title or affiliation. Thus, our name "Church of Christ" simply means that we are a church that belongs to Christ. We are committed to being a Bible-based and Christ-centered fellowship that lives for the glory of God, the spiritual growth of people, and ministry to our community and the world.
